Promoting Mass Cultivation
Although the implementing agency for cultivation is
Horticulture Department, SMPB has worked to promote the sector:-

A Hi-tech Nursery with two poly houses have been
established by SMPB in collaboration with Department of Floriculture
Kashmir, where 10 high commercial value medicinal plants have been
propagated for distribution to the farmers/ Govt organizations;

Ministry of AYUSH GoI has recently asked J&K SMPB to
submit the State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) under Medicinal Plants
component and act as Nodal Agency for the component. Accordingly, SAAP
for the year 2019-20 to the tune of Rs. 107.00 Lakhs was prepared and
submitted to Ministry of AYUSH GoI for approval. Highlights of SAAP
2019-20:

06 Cluster of Farmers (Three in Jammu Division,
Two in Kashmir Division and one in Ladakh Division) who shall take
mass cultivation of Medicinal Plants

03 Nurseries of high demand Medicinal Plants

2 Marketing cells one each in Jammu and Kashmir

Awareness/ Technical Assistance

J&K SMPB provided technical guidance to Defence
Forces for establishment of Herbal Gardens in their Camp premises.
SMPB also arranged planting material for these Herbal Gardens.

Accordingly, Herbal Gardens were established in
Northern Command Udhampur, Hariachak Jammu, Victor Force
Awantipora Kashmir, and Badamibagh Cantonment Srinagar.

J&K SMPB continuously organizes awareness camps
in almost all the districts of the State.

J&K SMPB also participates in Employment fairs,
National AROGYA fairs, Tourism Department Fairs so that all the
aspects of the sector are taken care of.
Research
-
Projects of the prestigious research institutes
of J&K viz a viz IIIM (CSIR) J&K, SKUAST J/K, Shri Mata Vaishno
Devi University, University of Kashmir (Botany/ Bio-Technology Deptt),
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, DRDO Leh, State Forest Research
Institute, J&K, etc. are recommended on fast track by J&K SMPB
to Ministry of AYUSH GoI for funding.
